The brief

The goal is to develop a clear roadmap to address accessibility issues across Sky’s digital experience and advance WCAG compliance using our first assessment as a baseline, which indicated a 49% compliance rate.
This initial audit had surfaced a large number of findings across different pages, components and user journeys: the goal is to understand where the biggest barriers are, identify recurring problems, and define a clear path towards remediation.

My role

I reviewed and analyzed existing findings, looked for recurring patterns and underlying causes, and helped translate them into clear remediation actions. I also worked across design and development considerations to make sure the recommendations could be realistically implemented by other teams involved.

The challenge

The digital ecosystem suffered from a "fragmented" approach to accessibility, where compliance levels varied drastically across different touchpoints.

  • Severe navigational barriers: core interactive elements lacked proper semantic structure, burying essential user flows and creating high cognitive load for assistive technology users.
  • Inconsistency: a lack of shared ARIA implementations and accessible design patterns led to a disjointed, unpredictable user journey across different platforms and modules.
  • Technical debt: the underlying code architecture couldn't systematically support WCAG and EN 301 549 compliance standards as the roadmap of new digital services expanded.

Design intent

Our strategy focused on driving full digital accessibility across the Sky ecosystem through:

  • Ecosystem-wide consistency: we evaluated around 100 web and app touchpoints to define targeted remediation actions, ensuring constant, scalable alignment with WCAG standards.
  • Continuous Accessibility QA: we integrated ongoing compliance checks into core digital streams (including My Sky App, Web Self Care, and Virtual Agent) to proactively identify defects and validate design releases in real-time.
  • Inclusive cross-functional workflows: we established a collaborative model uniting UX/UI, development, and key stakeholders to resolve critical barriers and embed accessibility directly into the product lifecycle.
